1 for 1000KM in 2023
Another running year has come to an end. This year 2023 I set a goal to run 1000km. I have being running for 2 years now(excluding 2023) and I have never achieved this. Today, the 30th of December 2023, I ran the 1KM I needed to reach the goal. Hence 1 for 1000KM title.

My key race for the year was the TotalSports Two Oceans half marathon for the second time. This happens in April and kinda means for the rest of the year, I run without a lot of upcoming race pressure. For context of the 1000KM, approximately 35% were finished in preparation for the Two Oceans Half. The remaining 650KM were mostly for fitness although I ended up enrolling for another half marathon.
I ended up taking part in two other half marathons. The Langebaan half marathon which was more of an exercise run to see where I was with my training. I also took part in the Porto Half Marathon which I can count as my first international race and a bucket list item.
Porto Half Marathon
This run was super amazing. I must say that this was probably the most challenging race for the year. The weather was pretty bad on race day and the whole week was filled with so many activities so I was not fully rested for the race but glad I did it and finished it!!!

What’s Next?
Now that the distance work is done, 2024 I will want to maintain the same distance goal but with better speed. I expect to ramp up on my strength workouts and other activities to help me increase my speed. The goal is to keep the distance but with a better average speed.
Looking forward to 2024 and happy new year to you all. Hope to see you in the streets or at a race somewhere in your country.
