Balwin Cape Peninsula Half Marathon ‘25

What a day to forget!! This race was challenging. I scored my worst time in a half marathon. I really struggled.

I ran this race in 2024 and it was the easiest route for a I half I had ever run. Going into it in 25, I was pretty confident. Although pushing for a PB was going to be difficult I felt I had enough in me to give it a shot. Now the weather conditions on race day were not so good. It was pretty windy and the race start time of 7am during Cape Town summer meant it will be pretty “hot” by then.

Ultimately I felt my lack of adequate training before the race was my issue. I started cramping after 9km. I essentially had to manage the cramps for the remainder of the race. I tried all gels and sprays but none could alleviate the pain. As I work towards the two oceans, a very good race goal for me would be to not have a cramp. I’m now focusing all my training on mileage and hills. I will save the speed work for next year.

This race still stays as one of the most beautiful routes ever.
