Why I started Running?

Growing up, I was that child that was not into playing sports. I had mastered the art of coming up with excuses on why I shouldn’t be involved in sports. To my surprise, I somehow managed to make it through high school and junior school without playing much of sport. This is besides the occasional compulsory running event at the school’s sporting gala.

This caught up with me in my adult life. After a routine medical check-up I got back some really scary results and my doctor advised me that I need to be active, like I need to find a sport or physical activity I can do regularly. I had tried going to the gym before but I never enjoyed it. I am still trying but haven’t found it exciting yet. The only thing I found interest in was running. Soon enough running became something I do not just to stay fit and healthy but to be with my thoughts. The amount of conversations I have with myself and God during my runs are amazing. If you have ever met me in person you do know I love talking.

The other beauty of running the cost of entry is very minimal. All you need to start running is a good pair of running shoes and off you go. Only after a year of running did I start investing in premium running shoes this was due to persistent shin splints while running. If you are fortunate enough to stay close to the coast, running by the beach is such a fun thing to do. Always a joy to run and have the sea breeze blow on you and cool you down.

I have just mentioned two of the key reasons that made me start running. I hope these can encourage someone to also start. Remember the journey of a 1000miles started with one footstep. Take it slow and ease yourself into the joy of running. In due time, we will meet at a marathon close to you 🙂 .
